Out-the-door price calculator

The price on a listing is not what you pay. Enter the price, your state's tax rate and the fees you have been quoted to see the full out-the-door total. Nothing you type is saved or sent anywhere.

What it adds up

The car's price, plus sales or vehicle tax, plus the title fee, registration fee, the dealer's documentation fee and any other fees, less the value of your trade-in. Your cash down payment is then subtracted to show what is still due.

Tax rules differ by state

States differ on whether a trade-in lowers the amount that is taxed and on whether a documentation fee is taxed. Use the two checkboxes to match what your state does, and ask the seller for an itemized quote to compare with this estimate.

Common questions

What is out-the-door price?

The total you pay to take the car home: the price, tax, title, registration and dealer fees, less any trade-in.

Where do I find my state's tax rate?

On your state's motor vehicle or revenue agency's website, or ask the seller. Local taxes can apply on top of the state rate.

Why is my dealer's quote different?

Dealers may add fees or add-ons, or calculate tax differently. Ask for an itemized quote and compare line by line.
